In this spotlight class, Annie will introduce you to her sensual, confident style of heels dance. She loves fostering an embodied, welcoming space for growth and exploration. Students will review basic movement concepts and build on skills before learning more advanced steps. Students will then learn an excerpt of choreography that will be used in Annie’s Performance Workshop series to be performed in May at the Rae Studios Spring Showcase. She can’t wait to see you in class!

The history of dancing in heels goes back to the early 20th century, However, the teaching of the art of heels was popularized around the globe in the early 21st century by artists such as Aisha Francis, Danielle Polanco, and Yannis Marshall. Heels is a choreographed dance class for intermediate/advanced students utilizing any type of high-heeled shoes. This class combines styles of dance from Jazz, Street Jazz, Hip Hop and Commercial dance. In this class, you will begin with a warm up focusing on strengthening the ankles, glutes, hips and core and finish with a short technique portion. In this class students can expect to learn longer and more advanced combos that challenge their understanding and approach to musicality, timing, alignment and performance quality

Suggested Wardrobe: Loose fitting pants or shorts, comfortable t-shirts or tank tops with a sports bra. Heels with strong ankle support.

Suggested Experience:
1-2 years of experience or more. Dancers should have a more than basic understanding of dance technique and terminology.

Prerequisite:
6 months or more of Int. Heels, Jumps & Turns and Ballet highly recommended for continued training. Dancers should know more than basic knowledge of Heels terminology and techniques.
