Afro Dance [Beginner / Intermediate]

Afro-dance is a choreography-based class with some freestyle elements.  Afro dance is a huge umbrella of dance styles influenced by East, West, South, and Central Africa. In this class, you will learn the history, foundation, choreography, stylized movement, muscle memory, and freestyle moments. 

House / Afro Fusion [Beginner / Intermediate]

The Afro-House genre of “music” came to popularity in the early 2000’s and Afro-House ``dance” started gaining popularity in the late 2000’s. Afro-House music was brought by local DJs and dancers to Angola from South Africa. Afro-House music has elements from traditional house beats infused with tribal vocals and various rhythmic variations. Afro-House dance infuses traditional african tribal movements, Kwaito (which comes from South Africa), and Dombolo (which come from Congo).  Afro-House dance keeps reinventing itself along the way, and gives space for creativity and personal recognition/growth within the style. It incorporates Afro dance with House fundamental steps and can be combined with other dance styles while keeping the original feelings.  In this class you will begin with a traditional warm-up, basic fundamentals, groove, footwork and authentic afro-house choreographed combos.

Bachata

Bachata is a dance from the Caribbean and Dominican Republic known for its sensual hip movements.  The Bachata dance was originally used as a “mating call” where the connection of the couple could be seen from afar by the frequency or sensuality of their hips moving along with smooth body movements and transitions, which characterize this dance as the most romantic of the various Latin styles.

• Level 1 [Beginner] - In this class, you will learn basic Bachata footwork, terminology, lead and follower foundations, and basic partner dance steps.  No partner necessary to attend.  6-8 weeks required before moving on to Bachata 2.
   

• Level 2 [Intermediate] - In this class, students will expand their Bachata technical skills while learning more in-depth techniques through various combinations and footwork patterns.  Students start with a traditional warm-up facing the mirror and review step patterns followed by partner dancing with intricate steps, partner patterns, lead and follower hand positions, and specific turns and step patterns focused around partner -work. Students then rotate with various partners to practice “social dancing”.

Ballet [Beginner]

Ballet is a type of performance dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. This is a basic class that introduces the student to the elementary positions of classical ballet. Classes are slow and thorough to ensure proper alignment and understanding.

Belly Dance

Belly Dance is a cultural dance style rooted in North Africa, the Middle East, Turkey and Greece.  The origin of the name “belly dance” comes from the French Danse du ventre, which translates “dance of the stomach”.
 

• [Beginner] - In this class you will learn in-depth movement, full body isolation, traditional belly dance technique and fundamentals followed by choreography.  Classes begin with a pilates grounded warm up to activate the core and into belly dance fundamentals, learning body placement, building on muscle memory and intermediate choreographed combinations.  We suggest that you take this class for a minimum of 6-8 weeks to get in the swing of new body movement.
   

• [Intermediate / Advance] - In this class you will learn in-depth movement, full body isolation, traditional belly dance technique and fundamentals followed by choreography.  Classes begin with a pilates grounded warm up to activate the core and into belly dance fundamentals, learning body placement, building on muscle memory and intermediate choreographed combinations.

Bollywood Funk Choreo [Beginner / Intermediate]
Bollywood Funk is a dance style that merges traditional Bollywood signature moves with modern dance steps. Bollywood dance originated in India around Bombay (now known as Mumbi) in the 20th century and can be found in today’s signature music video and commercialized dance choreographers.  This style has a contagious energy fusing Bollywood's most stylized dance moves while influencing and borrowing from other dance genres in Hip Hop, Latin, Jazz, Funk, and other Street style dances.  Must have at least 8-12 months experience of basic Bollywood, Hip-Hop, or Jazz Funk fundamentals.

Bollywood Fusion [Beginner / Intermediate]
Bollywood Fusion is a dance style that merges traditional Bollywood signature moves with modern contemporary dance steps. Bollywood dance originated in India around Bombay (now known as Mumbi) in the 20th century and can be found in today’s signature music video and commercialized dance choreographers.  In this class you will learn cultural Indian semi-classical rooted movements, foundations and vocabulary along with inspired styles from Hip Hop, Contemporary movements.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance originated from Europe and America in the 19th and 20th century with various styles of expressive dance that combines modern, ballet, lyrical jazz and today, other forms of street dance movement.

• [Beginner] - In this class you will begin center floor with a full body warm up into a beginner class combo.  Your class goals are to strive to connect the mind and body through fluid dance movements.
   

• [Intermediate / Advance] - In this class you will begin center floor with a full body warm up into a loner and more intense class combo.  Your class goals are to strive to connect the mind and body through fluid dance movements.

Contemporary Jazz [Beginner / Intermediate]

Contemporary Jazz is a dance form rooted from Africa that shares movement characteristics with classical ballet, modern dance and contemporary influences, and traditional jazz.  This class starts with a full body warm up, core activation, across the floor, a beg/int class combo with an emphasis on expression, flexibility, extension and jazz turns.

Dance Conditioning & Technique [All Levels]
This class focuses on two parts: 1) Dance Conditioning which focuses on lengthening and strengthening muscles, increasing range of motion, and improving the cardiovascular endurance, using cross-training and dance techniques. 2) Dance Technique focuses on various kicks, jumps, and turns in across the floor combinations.

Desi Hip Hop [Intermediate]
Desi hip hop is a dance style that combines influences of hip hop & urban dance with the music and movements of Bollywood. The term Desi refers to the South Asian diaspora, and this style has gained traction in the Desi community worldwide. Exposure to western hip hop culture both through immigration and media has led to this style developing exponentially, and has also led to many other new sub styles such as Bollywhacking as the hiphop community grows in India.

Heels [Beginner / Intermediate]

The history of dancing in heels goes back to the early 20th century, However, the teaching of the art of Heels was popularized around the globe in the early 21st century by artists such as Aisha Francis, Danielle Polanco, and Yannis Marshall.  Heels is a choreographed dance class for beginner/intermediate students utilizing any type of high-heeled shoes, not necessarily character heels.
 

• [Beginner / Intermediate] - This class combines styles of dance from jazz, street jazz, hip hop or commercial dance. In this class, you will begin with a warm up focusing on strengthening the ankles, glutes, hips and core finished with a short technique portion. This class heavily focuses on learning technique and choreography.
   

• [Intermediate / Advance] - This class combines styles of dance from jazz, street jazz, hip hop and commercial dance. In this class, you will begin with a warm up focusing on strengthening the ankles, glutes, hips and core finished with a short technique portion. This class heavily focused on grounding dancers, building strong fundamentals, drills and a deeper understanding of musicality, performance and quality of movement.

Heels Technique [Beginner]
The art of dancing in Heels has become much more prevalent within the last 10 years. Leaders like Yanis Marshall, Aisha Francis and Danielle Polanco started creating programs centered around Heels Technique. In this class you will learn foundational and technical skills in your heels. Each week will focus on a different skill and elements such as technique, strength & flexibility, walks, turns, floorwork, and hair whips.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop began forming as a culture and art movement in the Bronx of New York City in 1970. Hip hop dance is a range of street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music or sub-generes of hip-hop music that has evolved as part of the hip hop culture with various elements of dance styles.

• [Beginner] - In this class, you will learn the rhythms and movements of Hip-Hop, the five elements of Hip-Hop, grooves, fundamentals, history, musicality, and terminology in its relation to the Hip-Hop dance culture. A beginner-friendly Hip-Hop dance combo and education around Hip-Hop. This course is a prerequisite requirement for many of our intermediate/advanced classes. Prepare to take this class for at least 6-8 weeks before advancing to the next class.
   

• [Intermediate] - In this class, you will dive more in-depth on fundamentals and improving you movement quality, followed by a longer choreographed combo centered around musicality and movement quality.
   

• [Intermediate / Advance] - In this class, you will be pushed on performance, movement quality, pace, and musicality while building on choreography retention.
   

House Fundamentals [Beginner]

House Dance is a style of dance that originated in the late 70’s and early 80’s from underground clubs in Chicago and New York. The style was influenced by various types of movement including Tap, Hip-Hop, African dance, Latin dance, and martial arts. House is about freedom and self-expression, so come as you are! Students can expect a club atmosphere that’s high energy yet Beginner-friendly class with lots of movement and interactive drills. This class will focus on Jack, basic footwork, freestyling, and musicality.

Improv Dance [All Levels]

Dance improvisation (commonly known as improv) is the process of creating movement without pre-planning any steps or choreography. Free movement is a great way to have fun, relieve any stress and explore new ways to move and the best part is there are absolutely no rules. In this class, students will dive into the creative process of improvisational dance and explore creating movements with their bodies through various exercises and drills, explore musicality, and most importantly learn to how to express themselves through movement.

Industry Hip Hop [Intermediate / Advanced]

Have you ever dreamt of dancing in front of 90,000 fans? Or opening for Doja Cat? Whether you are new to the professional dance world, or are a seasoned veteran in the game, you are sure to learn how to up-level your performance. Learn the ins and outs of auditions, making the cut, taking the lesson, and ultimately expressing your truth through movement. Growth is where the magic happens and the magic happens in class! Industry Hip-Hop blends all of today's hottest dance trends and moves from across the Hip-Hop genres.  This class will push dancers performance, styling, textures and dynamics through power moves and grooves.  Students will learn choreography focused on musicality, movement and performance quality.

Jazz Funk [intermediate]

Jazz Funk dance, a super-set of Jazz and influenced by the Hip Hop dance style. This style of dance is usually fast-paced pointed gestures and quick movements.  In this class, you are expected to have basic knowledge of jazz foundations while learning quick pace combos emphasizing on feminism and intricate movements.

Jumps & Turns [Beginner]
Jumps and Turns is a jazz-based technique class based on a five-level curriculum. This class focuses on strict technique to help the dancer achieve their fullest potential. This class focuses on developing the strength, power, flexibility, and technique necessary for dancers to advance their jumps and turns. An emphasis will be placed on proper body alignment, spotting, and turnout. This class is a blend of traditional ballet and jazz techniques.

K-Pop [Beginner / Intermediate]

K-pop, short for Korean popular music, is a form of popular music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. ​​It includes styles and genres from around the world, such as pop, hip hop, R&B, experimental, rock, jazz, gospel, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, disco, and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots. Originally known as 'Gayo' in Korea, modern K-pop "idol" culture began in the 1990s. Our KPOP instructors will either highlight other KPOP choreographers reteaching combos from various music videos or create their own choreographed influences from various styles of dance.  Students should expect to learn fun combos and increase their performance quality.

 

Musical Theatre

Musical Theater Dance class is Fosse based with a twist. Students will be exposed to various styles of movements rooted in the diverse history of Broadway Musicals. Dancers will develop rhythm and their overall performance through dance combinations. The class includes a fast-paced warm-up focused on core strength, technique, and stretching.

Pop Jam [Intermediate]

Pop Jam originates from dance-pop, a popular music sub-genre that originated in the late 1970s to early 1980s.  It is generally uptempo music intended for nightclubs with the intention of being danceable.  Pop Jam is influenced by various dance styles including, Jazz Funk, Hip-Hop, and Latin dance.  Students are expected to have basic fundamentals of these dance genres.  This class moves at a true intermediate pace starting with a full body warm up, isolations into choreography.  Bring knee pads for those who wish to do floor work.  Floorwork and standing options are available.

Reggaeton [Beginner / Intermediate]
Reggaeton is a hybrid dance form built from salsa, dancehall, and hip-hop influences.  It reflects the musical and cultural journey of Jamaican migrants across the Caribbean (especially Puerto Rico, which is credited with creating 'mainstream' Reggaeton) towards Latin American and the United States. Reggaeton blends Jamaican music influences of reggae and dancehall with those of Latin America, such as Bomba and Plena, as well as that of hip hop. Reggaeton focuses on strong and sensual hip movements (commonly known as dancing 'perreo') and often incorporates Hip-Hop grooves and Latin dance technique. In this class, students will learn choreography to gain an understanding of the genre and its associated terminology. See instructor IG to view choreography style.

Salsa

Salsa is a Latin dance, associated with the music genre of the same name, which was first popularized in the United States in the 1960s in New York City. Salsa is a partnered dance where the lead takes the follower through a series of spins and turn patterns to music. Salsa's tempo ranges from about 60 bpm (beats per minute) to around 130 bpm, although most dancing is done to music somewhere between 80 and 120 bpm.
 

• Level 1 [Beginner] - In this class the student will learn the fundamental principles of partner dance, dance floor etiquette, timing, basic footwork, left & right turns, 'cross body lead', and other basic core elements and patterns for leading or following Salsa. It is recommended that students take this class for between 4-6 weeks before progressing to the level 2 class.
   

• Level 2 [Intermediate] - Level 2 is for students who have completed the 'fundamentals' course or for those who have a secure grasp of the basic elements of salsa and partnered dancing. Level 2 is for those who have a secure grasp of the basic elements of Salsa partner dancing. Prerequisite for level II - Students must know how to lead or follow basic left & right turns, Cross Body Lead with inside & outside turns, and Change of Places with inside & outside turns.

Shuffling [Beginner]

Shuffle originated in Melbourne, Australia in the late 1980’s and was danced in the club scene to EDM music.  Over the years shuffling has taken the world by storm from clubs to festivals. Shuffling is known to be inclusive, freedom, spiritual, liberating, free of judgment, true expression. Shuffle Dance connects you with the music you love in a special way.  In this class students will learn basic shuffle skills like the running man, and the T-step, while also learning to incorporate their own stylistic movements.

Street Jazz [Intermediate / Advanced]

Street Jazz is a high-energy fusion of jazz dance and elements of hip-hop dance. This style was shown in its early form on the sketch comedy series In Living Color. The resident dance troupe, the Fly Girls, of which Jennifer Lopez was a member, opened and closed every show with a hip-hop and jazz performance choreographed by Rosie Perez. This style of dance remains popular today, and has been used in music videos by Beyoncé, Paula Abdul, Gwen Stefani, and Janet Jackson. This class will focus on jazz technique partnered with the intricate styling that Hip-Hop dance has to offer. A vigorous warm up will focus on muscle conditioning and core strengthening.

Turf [All Levels]

Turfing (or turf dancing) is a form of street dance that originated in Oakland, California, characterized by rhythmic movement combined with waving, floor moves, gliding, flexing and contorting. It was developed by youth from West Oakland and organized by dancer Jeriel Bey, who coined the name "turf dancing," or "Turfin" and named his Organization The Architeckz™. Bey named the dance form as an acronym for "Taking Up Room on the Floor. The dance form had its earliest influences in the Boogaloo movement of the mid-1960s, but it developed into a distinctive dance style.
 

Twerk [All Levels]
Twerking is a type of dance that came out of the bounce music scene of New Orleans in the late 1980s. Twerking is rhythmic rotating, revolving and waving movements of the pelvis to make the booty shake. During your lessons, you will learn the twerking techniques. Each class includes a booty camp, which focuses on glute and leg activation. Plus isolation exercises to help tone and strengthen the hips, legs, glutes and back. You will also work on “core” twerk moves to develop twerk skill. You will then learn different twerk moves, shapes, holds and techniques that will be combined into a short sequence so that you and the whole class can shake your booty’s together.

Vogue [Beginner / Intermediate]
Vogue, or voguing, is a highly stylized, modern house dance originating in the late 1980s that evolved out of the Harlem ballroom scene of the 1960s. ​​It gained mainstream exposure when it was featured in Madonna's song and video "Vogue" (1990), and in the 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning. Voguing incorporates five elements including duck walk, hand performance, spins & dips, catwalk and floor performance. Students should expect to focus on a different element each week.  Students will also learn a choreographed combo with a focus on personal essence and musicality.

Waacking [Beginner / Intermediate]

Waacking/Whacking, which originated from the style Punking, began in LA gay clubs during the 1970s where queer men of color found a place to fully express and be themselves.  Drawing inspiration from visual art such as classic Hollywood films and cartoons, Waacking/Whacking is characterized by arm movements, posing, storytelling, musicality, and freedom of self-expression.  In this class you will learn the foundations and techniques through drills, freestyle exercises, and choreography!

BollyX [All Levels]

A Bollywood cardio dance fitness class inspired and driven by the heart-pumping, energetic rhythms of Bollywood. The class embodies dynamic choreography and easy-to-follow dance aerobics. Learn the origins and vocabulary of traditional Bollywood dance steps in this all-level class. Suggested footwear: Sneakers.

DRENCHED! [All Levels]

DRENCHED! is a signature Rae Studios cardio dance-based class created by Jessica Rae featuring pre-choreographed dance combos.  Music genres include Hip Hop, Latin Dance, Dancehall, Afro Dance, Reggaeton, and Pop. In this class, prepare to bring a towel and bottled water.  Class will continuously move with three levels of movement.  Levels 1-2 are easy to follow with Level 3 designed to move vigorously while pushing choreography retention. We suggest taking this class for at least 3-5 weeks to get in the swing of learning combos.  Class is great for all levels.  Modified movements available and instructed by the teacher for every class.

Zumba [All Levels]
Zumba is a fitness program that involves cardio and Latin-inspired dance founded by Colombian dancer and choreographer Beto Pérez in 2001. Zumba incorporates four basic rhythms including salsa, reggaeton, merengue and cumbia and each basic rhythm has four core steps. In this class you should expect a high energy environment with easy to follow choreography to form the ultimate calorie-burning experience. Music genres may include Latin beats, Reggaeton, Hip Hop, and Pop music.
 

  FITNESS

Express Abs [All Levels]

Express Abs is a 25 min rhythmic cardio-fitness class designed for a full body workout and an emphasis on your core.  Class begins with a full body warmup (light weights optional), stretch, followed by heavy- and light-weight standing upper body and ab-focused combos into various mat positions targeting your core muscle groups.  This is an all levels class. 
 

High Fitness [All Levels]

Aerobics is back! Bigger, Better, and HIGHer! Experience a modern twist on aerobics in a non-stop action-packed hour of cardio and toning tracks and exercise movements that will take your fitness to the next level. Old School Aerobics made into a modern, heart-pounding, fun, and effective workout. Cardio and toning meet leg warmers with a side of air guitar. You will have an absolute blast and leave this class wanting more because it is so much fun! Adaptable to all levels of fitness, you can go high or you can go low but you will always leave feeling HIGH!

H.I.I.T. [All Levels]

HIIT is a full-body workout. The class is a rigorous interval training sequence with high-intensity exercises. It builds cardiovascular fitness while improving muscular strength and endurance. People are challenged to push to their limits and walk out feeling strong.

Pilates [All Levels]
Pilates is a type of mind-body exercise developed in the early 20th century by German physical trainer Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. Pilates is a low-impact exercise that creates optimal strength through muscle balance and fine-tuning neuromuscular patterns. Students should expect to experience t​​​otal body fitness exercises that consist of low-impact flexibility, muscular strength, and endurance movements that emphasize proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance.
 

Power Barre [All Levels]

Barre was created in 1959 by a ballet dancer named Lotte Berk after injuring her back.  Berk combined ballet movements with rehabilitative therapy to form a few methods of exercise.  Power barre is positioned on the center floor.  Also known as “off the barre”.  This class includes high + low impact traditional barre combos using medium and light weights along with other props that change weekly.  This class is centered around traditional ballet, dance, yoga and pilates foundations. This is an all-levels class.  Arrive early to save your seat at the mat.

Stretch & Flexibility [All Levels]

Stretch and flexibility class is a stretching and mobility-based session that aims to improve functional capacity, recover better, and prevent injury. In this class students will learn how to properly activate and control important stabilizing muscles and perform movements with efficiency while getting supple and energized.

  YOGA

Meditation [All Levels]
Meditation was first discovered by ancient monks also known as the yogis of India over 5,000 years ago.  The goal of this class is to build a strong foundation for a consistent meditation practice through fundamentals, silence, and observation.  In this class you will be guided using breathwork practices (pranayama), visual imagery, and mindfulness.  These practices help reduce stress, control anxiety, promote emotional health and enhance self awareness.

Power Yoga [All Levels]
In this 55-minute music-centric, beginner-welcoming vinyasa class, participants will flow through a sequence of yoga poses with each movement rooted in mindful breathing. Incorporating floor work, standing, and balance poses, this practice aims for participants to find their own internal flow in the movement and create strength, space, and fluidity in the body and mind. Participants will gain a sound foundation in a yoga pose alignment and a general introduction to yoga practices like breathwork and meditation to a curated playlist of vibrant jams.

Yoga Flow [All Levels]

Yoga Flow is a physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in ancient India. This class incorporates simple flowing sequences to warm up the body, linking movements to breath as the primary focus.  This class is great for all levels focused on alignment, strength, balance, and flexibility mastering each pose
