Olivia Piper

Hip Hop: Grooves (Beginner)

Every 1st & 5th Thursday of the Month

Raised in Santa Rosa, California, Olivia Piper began her dance training in hip hop and ballet but has since broadened her movement skills in jazz, tap, contemporary, modern, African, krump, musical theatre and more. In 2016 she attended Dance Theatre of Harlem's summer program followed by joining Auxiliary Dance Team in 2018 when the team competed on World of Dance (WOD). Gaining experience in teaching through private lessons, classes, musical theatre performances, and week long camps, Olivia loves sharing the gift of dance with others.

After attending the illustrious Spelman College in Atlanta GA, she graduated with an honors degree in dance performance and choreography in 2023. It was there she gained a deeper appreciation for dance therapy work and choreography that tells intricate stories. Her first self produced work Our Protected Light, debuted in 2023 sharing a story of personal discovery while appealing to communities of curious minds, and young black women holding space for themselves. Olivia’s work urges movers to be raw, bold, and risky in the artistic space while simultaneously sharing proper technique and movement history.

Olivia has curated her own movement company A.R.C or analyze, release, create. She hopes to collaborate and hold space for participants to work through mental health blocks and create meaningful movement art to promote healing. She is excited to continue learning and share her movement with others as a teacher at Rae Studios!

Raymond Huang

Shuffle (Beginner)

Every 2nd Thursday of the month

Raymond is a San Francisco native who began his journey as a raver, finding in the rave scene a safe space to express himself both artistically and emotionally. In February 2025, he was introduced to the shuffling community, where he discovered a deeper and more intimate way to connect with others and with the music. Now, he hopes to create the same kind of safe environment that once supported him, one where students can express themselves beyond the venue, foster a sense of community, and teach others the joy that dance has brought to his life.

Shuffle (Beginner) Description:

Shuffle originated in Melbourne, Australia in the late 1980’s and was danced in the club scene to Electronic Dance music. Over the years shuffling has taken the world by storm from clubs to festivals. Shuffling is known to be inclusive, liberating, spiritual, free of judgment, and true expression. Shuffle Dance connects you with the music you love in a special way. In this class students will learn basic shuffle skills like the running man, and the T-step, while also learning to incorporate their own stylistic movements. Students can expect to learn shorter combos focusing on fundamentals and choreography retention.

Sara Templeton

Salsa (All Levels)

Every 3rd Thursday of the month

Sara is a choreographer, teacher, and dancer born and raised in San Francisco. She started her professional hip-hop career at sixteen, dancing with Culture Shock S.F. and L.A. and guest performing with independent artists throughout the Bay Area. While earning her dance degree at Loyola Marymount University, Sara expanded her training to include ballet, modern / contemporary, and dunham technique, and also began a focused re-engagement with salsa and other Latin dances connected to her Puerto Rican heritage. It was during this time that Sara truly honed in on her passion for choreography and teaching, and the ways in which the intelligence of different dance techniques could cross pollinate for the benefit of the artist. During her hip-hop performance career Sara worked alongside notable artists Allan Frias and Jesse Lee Santos, and did commercial work with musical groups Blue Boy and Spanish Fly. Locally Sara has performed and presented work at Dance Mission Theater and ODC, and is blest to have trained with exceptional Bay teachers such as Janice Garrett, Robert Moses, Robert Dekkers, Brett Conway, and others. Currently Sara is choreographing the Center Repertory Company’s Spring 2023 musical production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights.

Sara strongly believes in the joy of dance, and is dedicated to fostering a safe and playful space where students can work on sound dance technique while feeling motivated to grow. When Sara is not in the studio teaching or choreographing, she is experimenting with dance for film, and running her online dance merchandise store ObjectsForArts. Besides dance, Sara is an ardent, 20-year practitioner of Iyengar yoga, and a strong believer in massages and chocolate.

Salsa (All Levels) Description:

Salsa is a Latin dance, associated with the music genre of the same name, which was first popularized in the United States in the 1960s in New York City. This all-levels class dives into the most unique and beautiful characteristics of salsa dance without the complications of dancing with a partner. Movement focuses on building fundamental salsa footwork patterns, and then adding embellishments that will elevate your Latin dance style. Class begins with an easy warmup that progresses into a fun, choreographed routine with variations offered for different skill levels.

Sassi Fran

K-Pop (All Levels)

Every 4th Thursday of the month

Francesca Balagtas, aka Sassi Fran, was born in San Francisco but raised in Las Vegas. The styles they trained in throughout childhood and adolescence included tap, ballet, jazz, hip hop, street jazz, Hula, Tahitian, and Maori. At the age of 18, Sassi moved back to San Francisco to attend San Francisco Art Institute to receive her BFA in Sculpture. Although her studies were in visual arts, she always hungered for dance. In 2015 and 2016 she began dancing with various dance groups in San Francisco such as Bay Area Flash Mob, Sexitude, and Bay Area Dancers and began teaching her own original street jazz, pop, and hip hop choreography at BAFM and BAD. In 2017, Sassi and her close friend, Patrick Santos, founded K-Pop-Up, a K-pop dance class and group as a way to find other K-Pop lovers who also want to dance. Today Sassi continues to train herself in more styles such as pole, heels, vogue, and waacking to enrich her own repertoire. Throughout Sassi’s near decade of teaching, it is always their goal to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment that is friendly to people of all dance levels. In addition to teaching dance around the San Francisco Bay Area, Sassi is a local drag performer who incorporates K-Pop and her own original choreography into many of her drag performances. Sassi produces and hosts NUNA, a bi-annual queer K-Pop dance party/drag show at The Stud in the SOMA district.

K-Pop (All Levels) Description:

K-Pop, short for Korean popular music, is a form of music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. As a dance genre, it is influenced heavily from many genres around the world, such as Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, Experimental, Rock, Jazz, and Electronic Dance on top of its traditional Korean music roots. Modern K-Pop "idol" culture began in the 1990s and has grown into a global phenomenon with groups like BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, TWICE, and more. K-Pop instructors will teach choreography from various music videos or create their own choreographed influences from various styles of dance. Students should expect to learn fun combos and increase their performance quality.
