Jasper Sanchez

Shuffle (Beginner)

Every 2nd Wednesday of the month

Starting to dance in 2009 with clubs in schools I attended, I eventually found a career in dance in 2021. I’ve always been passionate about sharing my love, knowledge, & passion for dance with others over the years. ShuffleBreak is my unique mixture of Shuffling & Breakdancing. This performance will display both styles of dance as well as moments where they’re mixed together. I’m most appreciative for this opportunity & for those I have the pleasure of sharing the stage with.

Shuffle (Beginner):

Shuffle originated in Melbourne, Australia in the late 1980’s and was danced in the club scene to Electronic Dance music. Over the years shuffling has taken the world by storm from clubs to festivals. Shuffling is known to be inclusive, liberating, spiritual, free of judgment, and true expression. Shuffle Dance connects you with the music you love in a special way. In this class students will learn basic shuffle skills like the running man, and the T-step, while also learning to incorporate their own stylistic movements. Students can expect to learn shorter combos focusing on fundamentals and choreography retention.

Sarah Medley

K-Pop (All Levels)

Every 3rd Wednesday of the month

Sarah (they/them) is a dance instructor based in San Francisco, originally from Southern California. Drawn to K-Pop for its precision, structure, and high-level performance quality, Sarah specializes in dynamic formations, sharp synchronization, and musical clarity. Their background in Hip Hop, Locking, and Shuffle informs a well-rounded teaching approach that emphasizes both technique and context, including the cultural and stylistic origins behind many K-Pop trends. In class, students can expect to learn choreography inspired by leading industry choreographers such as Bada Lee, Rie Hata, Back Kooyoung, and BBTrippin. Follow Sarah on Instagram for updates on upcoming classes and featured songs.

K-Pop (All Levels):

K-Pop, short for Korean popular music, is a form of music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. As a dance genre, it is influenced heavily from many genres around the world, such as Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, Experimental, Rock, Jazz, and Electronic Dance on top of its traditional Korean music roots. Modern K-Pop "idol" culture began in the 1990s and has grown into a global phenomenon with groups like BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, TWICE, and more. K-Pop instructors will teach choreography from various music videos or create their own choreographed influences from various styles of dance. Students should expect to learn fun combos and increase their performance quality.

Sara Templeton

Salsa (All Levels)

Every 4th Wednesday of the Month

Sara is a choreographer, teacher, and dancer born and raised in San Francisco. She started her professional hip-hop career at sixteen, dancing with Culture Shock S.F. and L.A. and guest performing with independent artists throughout the Bay Area. While earning her dance degree at Loyola Marymount University, Sara expanded her training to include ballet, modern / contemporary, and dunham technique, and also began a focused re-engagement with salsa and other Latin dances connected to her Puerto Rican heritage. It was during this time that Sara truly honed in on her passion for choreography and teaching, and the ways in which the intelligence of different dance techniques could cross pollinate for the benefit of the artist. During her hip-hop performance career Sara worked alongside notable artists Allan Frias and Jesse Lee Santos, and did commercial work with musical groups Blue Boy and Spanish Fly. Locally Sara has performed and presented work at Dance Mission Theater and ODC, and is blest to have trained with exceptional Bay teachers such as Janice Garrett, Robert Moses, Robert Dekkers, Brett Conway, and others. Currently Sara is choreographing the Center Repertory Company’s Spring 2023 musical production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights.

Sara strongly believes in the joy of dance, and is dedicated to fostering a safe and playful space where students can work on sound dance technique while feeling motivated to grow. When Sara is not in the studio teaching or choreographing, she is experimenting with dance for film, and running her online dance merchandise store ObjectsForArts. Besides dance, Sara is an ardent, 20-year practitioner of Iyengar yoga, and a strong believer in massages and chocolate.

Salsa (All Levels):

Salsa is a Latin dance, associated with the music genre of the same name, which was first popularized in the United States in the 1960s in New York City. This all-levels class dives into the most unique and beautiful characteristics of salsa dance without the complications of dancing with a partner. Movement focuses on building fundamental salsa footwork patterns, and then adding embellishments that will elevate your Latin dance style. Class begins with an easy warmup that progresses into a fun, choreographed routine with variations offered for different skill levels  Each routine will be built as a progression throughout the month, so that all students will have time to play with movement quality, polish their technique, and progress into more advanced variations of the choreography as desired. Heels are optional, but the fun is guaranteed!
