RECAP | BOOMBOX SUNDAY @ UN Plaza | Summer Kick-Off ☀️

On behalf of Rae Studios we want to give a huge thank you to everyone who came out for our Boombox Sunday event in collaboration with Civic Center/UN Plaza and SF Recreation & Parks. This event was a FREE Dance Marathon at the all new UN PLAZA in San Francisco’s Civic Center. This free community event is brought to you by CCCBD, with a grant from SFOEWD and Mayor Lurie. This is our second event in partnership with UN Plaza and we are so thankful for everyone that came and danced with us. Everyone at this event had the opportunity to enjoy a free dance class combined with limited edition Boombox T-Shirts and sunglasses!


We at Rae Studios are so proud to host events like this celebrating unity, arts and movement through DANCE. Thank you to the City of San Francisco for sponsoring this event. Thank you for your support for our community, classes and instructors. We look forward to bringing you many more events like this in the future.

Faith Dalton (@faith.alexis) | LINES Ballet

Contemporary Fusion (Beginner)

10:00am-10:55am


Faith Alexis Dalton is a freelance dancer who is passionate about hip

hop, whacking, jazz funk, modern, contemporary, and how those genres

translate through a queer-focused lens. In 2023, she received her BA in Dance from Saint Mary's College of California, under the training of Shaunna Vella, Rogelio Lopez, Crystaldawn Bell and more. Her training also includes Mills’ Dance Program under the tutelage of Robert Moses, Sheldon Smith, and Suhaila Salimpour. Following graduation Faith began teaching for HeART with LINES, Alonzo King LINES Ballet’s community program. She is currently a part of Full Out Studio’s dance company INQ, under the direction of Rocko Luciano and Alli Fritz. She has performed in the San Francisco International Hip Hop Dancefest, San Francisco Pride, and many more. In 2023 Faith wasalso invited and performed her original work “Dancers Move Act II” at ACDA in Arizona. Faith is always striving to create a warm welcoming space and teaches with a community oriented approach. She believes that every person is a dancer and she looks forward to dancing with everyone, whether that's in class or if you pass each other on the street!


Contemporary Fusion (Beginner):

Contemporary fusion dance combines the expressive and improvisational nature of contemporary dance with elements from other styles like ballet, modern dance, jazz, and even street dance, creating a dynamic and versatile art form. It emphasizes fluidity, freedom of movement, and a wide range of emotional expression.

Vince Chan (@viincechan) | City Dance

Hip Hop (Beginner)

11:00am-11:55am


Vince Chan, a proud Bay Area native from Daly City, CA, has been immersed in the dance community for over 17 years. He currently dances with The Company, a renowned team based out of Westlake School for the Performing Arts. Throughout his career, Vince has taught and performed on stages around the world, and has collaborated with prominent Bay Area artists including P-Lo and E-40.


Beyond the stage, Vince teaches weekly at City Dance Studios and works in Marketing Operations at a San Francisco tech company.

Hip Hop (Beginner):

Hip-Hop is an artistic and cultural movement that started in the 1970s in The Bronx of New York City by Black and Latiné youth who expressed joy through Hip-Hop during a time of oppression. Hip-Hop dance consists of Breaking (commercially known as Breakdancing) and Hip-Hop Party Moves (e.g., Bart Simpson, Biz Markie, Roger Rabbit, Running Man). In this class students will focus on a beginner-friendly Hip-Hop dance combo that will help with choreography and movement quality. This course is a prerequisite requirement for many of our beginner/intermediate or intermediate/advanced classes. Prepare to take this class for at least 6-8 weeks before advancing to the next class.

Jackson Tran (@jxtrxn) | Rae Studios

K-Pop (All Levels)

12:00pm-12:55pm


Jackson has a diverse background in Hip-Hop, Jazz Funk, and K-Pop dancing. He is a founding member of a K-Pop dance crew based in Santa Cruz called StarChrome. Additionally, he served as a director for JK Family, a beginner-friendly choreography dance crew that blends various dance forms with a passion for Japanese, Korean, and American music. Jackson enjoys exploring new styles and merging different techniques to create choreography that transcends any single genre. Currently, he teaches choreography to students of all ages, from children to adults, at Rae Studios and other studios where he is involved. He plans to continue expanding his skills and evolving as a dance instructor who can express dance through a diverse range of styles.


K-Pop (All levels):

​​​​K-Pop, short for Korean popular music, is a form of music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. ​​It includes styles and genres from around the world, such as Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, Experimental, Rock, Jazz, Gospel, Reggae, Electronic dance, Folk, Country, Disco, and Classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots. Originally known as 'Gayo' in Korea, modern K-pop "idol" culture began in the 1990s. Our KPOP instructors will either highlight other KPOP choreographers reteaching combos from various music videos or create their own choreographed influences from various styles of dance. Students should expect to learn fun combos and increase their performance quality.

Dione Dacuycuy (@dcuycuy) | Rae Studios

Hip Hop (All Levels)

1:00pm - 2:00pm


Dione (he/him) began his dance journey at UCLA on collegiate teams, starting with no prior experience. Over the past 11 years, he has cultivated his passion for movement and artistic expression, training with renowned Bay Area teams such as Project M, Groove Against the Machine, and most recently, Str8Jacket. Drawing inspiration from styles like Hip-Hop, K-POP, and House, Dione integrates these influences into his choreography while honoring the rich histories of the dances he learns. Most recently, he was an instructor at City Dance Studios Fall 2024.


Dedicated to growth and sharing his craft, Dione creates dynamic, expressive, and enjoyable classes that emphasize musicality, performance, grooves, and textures. He strives to inspire through movement and foster a love for dance in his students.

Hip Hop (All Levels):

Hip Hop began forming as a culture and art movement in the Bronx of New York City in 1970. Hip hop dance is a range of street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music or sub-generes of hip-hop music that has evolved as part of the hip hop culture with various elements of dance styles. In this class, you will learn the rhythms and movements of Hip-Hop, the five elements of Hip-Hop, grooves, fundamentals, history, musicality, and terminology in its relation to the Hip-Hop dance culture. A beginner-friendly Hip-Hop dance combo and education around Hip-Hop.
